What is a Data Granule ID?

A data granule ID is a set of characters which uniquely identify each individual granule of a data set. Data granule IDs are created at the DAAC where the data granule (and parent data set) originate. Data granule ID has no standard format: it can range from the simple to the fairly complex. For example, a data granule ID for one granule from the Spaceborne Imaging Radar C-Precision is PR14435. A data granule ID for one granule from the MISR Level 1B2 Ellipsoid data set is SC:MI1B2E.001:252242.

The Data Granule ID Search is similar to the Primary Data Search, in that it provides results that contain descriptions of specific data granules from one or more data sets. Data granule descriptions typically include temporal and spatial coverage, data quality indicators, and physical storage information.

Data Granule ID searches can be done for both EOS and non-EOS data. Users of Data Granule ID Search must know the IDs of the specific data granules that they want. Note that not all data centers support Data Granule ID Search, so you may have to switch to Primary Data Search if the Data Granule ID search is unsuccessful.

Choose Data Set and Data Granule ID

The Data Set button in this section takes you to another page that lets you specify your data set. For a data granule ID search:

Choose Additional Options

Max Granules:

The maximum number of data granules to return from a Data Granule ID Search. More than one data center may have the same data granule id. You may want to limit the number of data granules returned for a data set. This will speed up the searching process.

Max Search Time:

Some searches take a long time to run. Your search will automatically stop when the maximum search time is reached, any partial results will be displayed. You can change the maximum search time to any whole number of minutes up to the default maximum.

Query Name:

The name the system will try to give to the query when you save the query (download) to your local machine. Note, that some versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer ignore this and create their own bizarre file names.

Start Search

Once you've specified a data set and data granule id, click on the Start Search! button to start your search.

Upload/Download a Query

At the bottom of the page, you'll see this section. If you've named your query, you can download a copy of it to your local machine and save it by clicking on the Download query button. If you've already got a saved query, you can click on the browse button to show the browser where your query is and then upload it with the Upload Query button. The search type will be set to your current selection and not the search type from the uploaded file.

Search Types

Using these links located on the lower left side of the page, you can switch to thePrimary Data Search Form, Local Granule ID Search, Detailed Document Search Form, or the Summary Document Search Form by clicking on the proper link.

You can also switch to the Primary Data Search Form by clicking the link at the top of the page.

Data Granule ID search supports the following criteria for refining your search:
