From Page 9: "Living quarters at the end of the 1958 melt season. When the camp was established in April, 1957, the foundations of the various buildings were protected with cloth aprons to prevent the accelerated melting which had been experienced around buildings in the earlier camp on the island. With melting at the foundations inhibited, the living quarters were left on ice pedestals about 8 feet high after two seasons of ablation.”
