Outreach for 2007

  • Provided science advice for screenplay writers with the Curious Theatre Company in Denver, Colorado
  • Provided International Polar Year (IPY) Science Data Stories on Sea Ice (Live Webcast)
  • Gave preconcert talk at "First Person: Stories from the Edge of the World," held in Macky Auditorium, University of Colorado

Current Research [top]

  • Diagnosing the declining Arctic sea ice cover using a combination of modeling and observational data
  • Examining changes in climate variables in the Arctic using satellite imagery; studying how each variable changes in the context of other cryospheric variables on local and regional basis; a clearer pattern of climatic change will emerge than is achievable by studying trends in any one variable alone
  • Developing blended scatterometry/passive microwave data for improved sea ice products
  • Working on QuikSCAT sea ice extent, developed by David Long at BYU
  • Validating AMSR-E sea ice products using a forward modeling approach
