This article, posted today, was motivated by an individual burning koala last month. This was a written response to my first visceral response to that individual being's end of life experience. Public communication is not the science that drives us, but it

 is the essential link between our work and public understanding. Please f<span style="caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Calibri, Helvetica, sans-serif; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); display: inline !important">ind your burning koala somewhere,

 see it, feel it, and write to the public from your expertise and from your deeper and broader understanding. We--humanity-- have to do something on this Earth different than what we've been doing.<span> We scientists have to keep on what we're doing, but do

 more public outreach. </span></span></div>
