The mission of the National Snow and Ice Data Center is to make fundamental contributions to cryospheric science and excel in managing data and disseminating information in order to advance understanding of the Earth system. We are key in supporting scientific research into Earth’s frozen regions, and are also a trusted source of information for the public on snow and ice as climate indicators.

NSIDC disseminates scientific data from satellites, aircraft, and ground studies on ice sheets, glaciers, snow, sea ice, frozen ground, and more to researchers around the world. We are seeking an experienced UX designer to help us take user experience to the next level for our scientific communities who are finding, downloading, and using scientific data sets from our website. We need someone to own the UX vision and to translate our user knowledge and research into specific and detailed workflows, interactions, and UI designs. You will be part of a team of user services representatives, technical writers, and website builders, and will lead UX design on applications development teams. As a project manager, you would also enjoy organizing and facilitating our small portfolio of customer-related projects.

Ideally, you will bring a strong background in interaction design and visual design for complex and sometimes technical workflows. You like a challenge and digging deep into your UX knowledge to create rich solutions. You enjoy working with a variety of people and helping them get things done. You are familiar with lightweight project management tools and managing a backlog. You can show us a portfolio of your UX/UI work. The University requires that you have a college degree. NSIDC has stable funding and we are looking for someone interested in an ongoing position.
