Media Visits

Visiting NSIDC

To schedule a media visit to NSIDC, please contact leitzell@nsidc.org, or call the press office at +1 303.492.1497. Because we are a small facility, we request that visits be scheduled with as much notice as possible.

If you are not a member of the media and would like to visit NSIDC, please contact User Services at nsidc@nsidc.org or +1 303.492.6199.

Facilities

NSIDC is located in Boulder, Colorado, in an office building with a view of the Flatirons. Please note that our facilities are primarily dedicated to satellite data storage and management. While we do not house science laboratories, we do offer scientific visualization capabilities that may serve as backdrops during on-camera interviews.  Filming and photography are permitted both inside and outside the bulk of our facilities without special arrangement.

The University of Colorado does not offer studio rooms for recording television or radio interviews. Radio journlists occasionally arrange for interviews to be conducted at the Boulder independent community radio station, KGNU, which is about a mile away from NSIDC. Visit KGNU online at http://www.kgnu.org/. Depending upon scheduling and availability, television journalists may occasionally arrange live recordings 45 minutes south in Denver with unaffiliated private recording studios.

Press visitors sometimes ask us about ice cores. While our scientists can speak to the general findings and importance of ice cores, NSIDC does not house nor specialize in ice cores. The U.S. National Ice Core Laboratory is approximately 45 minutes south, in Denver, and may arrange press visits with prior notice. Visit them online at http://nicl.usgs.gov/.
