A New Look for nsidc.org

We have changed our online look, as part of an ongoing project to make our site easier to navigate. Our data, information, and services are the same, but we hope our new Web site design will help you more easily locate what you need.

Looks, labels, and menus

The NSIDC site has a new appearance that makes navigation options, and the contents of our site, easier to find and understand. The site's main navigation, across the top of every page, now features "roll over" menus. If you place your mouse pointer over one of the menu items, the contents of that menu are displayed. You will see each section's contents and can get there with fewer clicks. New options on the "Data" menu help you locate data-related topics.

Searching

Our new site design offers more search options, in more locations around the site:

• You can enter a search term in the NSIDC site-wide search, powered by Google, at the top right corner of every page.
• The NSIDC home page and data center pages also feature a "Quick Data Search," where you can conveniently enter search terms for locating data sets. The Quick Data Search is most helpful when you know what data set you are looking for.
• From our home page, you can also quickly link to a specific data collection (such as AMSR-E data).
• The Advanced Data Search offers more detailed search capabilities, using one or multiple criteria. You may also browse lists of data sets, organized by topic, title, or data contributor.

"The Cryosphere" is now the "Education Center"

In the Education Center, you will find information and resources for learning about snow, ice, glaciers, sea ice, and more. We've also added a new page, All About the Cryosphere, introducing the frozen places that make up the Earth's cryosphere.

Web browser information

The NSIDC Web site has been tested to work with the following browsers:

• Windows: Internet Explorer 6.x, 7.x; Mozilla Firefox 1.x, 2.x
• Macintosh: Mozilla Firefox 1.x, 2.x
• Sun/Linux: Mozilla 1.x
