Graphics Information

Below is a detailed description of the imagery and resources we have available.  Please note that we are not able to modify or create new graphics; this site contains the breadth of our offerings.

Satellite imagery

• For satellite imagery showing current sea ice extent and to download high-resolution versions, see Arctic Sea Ice News 2006 home and the official press release, Arctic Sea Ice Shrinks as Temperatures Rise
• Use Google Earth software to view our animated images of sea ice extent from 1979 to 2006, overlaid on an interactive image of the Earth; for instructions and downloads, see NSIDC Data on Google Earth and the Sea Ice Index entry

• Access additional sea ice images, and the satellite data that is behind many of our images, at the Sea Ice Index

Photographs and video of sea ice

NSIDC does not offer ground or aerial photographs or video of Arctic sea ice at this time.  Possible sources for such images are:

• The OneWorld Expedition, with which NSIDC previously partnered to gather field observations. Visit the Greenpeace Project Thin Ice 2006 photo page.
• Institutional image libraries, such as the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research Digital Image Library, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution ImageSource, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Alaska Image Library, the NOAA Photo Library, and others.
