[During the installation, the 100 ft long current meter masts were supported by the a winch/cable assy mounted on a radio tower section (seen at the far left in the photograph). Under the ice, the frame was shifted to a buoyancy support system consisting of two stainless steel beer barrels in a wooden frame with SCUBA bottle attached to "blow ballast' when necessary. with this system, the mast could be manuvered into position and bolted to the underice supports. (MLW)]
