Deep Thermohms

In the second week of March a series of six holes, equally spaced around a three-meter radius circle, were augered into the snow 200 meters east of the station. Six thermhom elements were set at depths of 0, 0.5, 2, 4, 8, and 16 meters. Temperatures were taken once a week throughout the year, using a Leeds and Northrup bridge in conjunction with the thermohms.

Subsurface Thermohms

On the 2nd of April 1958 the depth of the six thermohms situated in a temperature study plot approximately 100 yards southwest of the garage entrance was as follows:

No. 1 80 centimeters
No. 2 130 centimeters
No. 3 280 centimeters
No. 4 480 centimeters
No. 5 880 centimeters
No. 6 1680 centimeters

Three stakes graduated in centimeters were set over the thermohms. These were measured to the nearest 1/2 centimeter and then averaged. These were read at the same time as the thermohms in order to calculate the weekly change in the depth of the thermohms.
