Detailed Data Description

This data set is a low-resolution set of measurements of δ15N of N2 and δ18O of O2, along with δO2/N and δAr/N2 supporting data, in the WAIS Divide 3405 m long ice core recovered in 2011.

This data set was used to build the chronology of the ice core (see Buizert et al., Clim. Past, 11, 153-173, 2015). The δ15N provides an estimate of firn thickness, and is used in conjunction with borehole temperature and water isotopes to produce a temperature history and a chronology in a grand inversion with an ice flow model. The δ18O of O2 can be used in the future to match other ice cores and glacial outcrops to the WAIS Divide gas chronology.

Format

Data are provided in tab-limited ASCII format.

Data Acquisition and Processing

Dual-inlet dynamic mass spectrometry combined with melt-refreeze gas extraction from 15 gram ice samples. Samples were cut on a band saw following standard procedures outlined in Petrenko et al., 2006 Quaternary Science Reviews 25, 865-875.
