Historical Arctic Rawinsonde ArchiveVolumes 1 through 5 of this data set contain millions of vertical soundings (temperature, pressure, humidity, wind) representing all available rawinsonde ascents from Arctic land stations poleward of 65 degrees North from the beginning of record through mid-1996. Most records begin in the late 1950s, and a few in 1947 or 1948. Typically, 20 to 40 levels are included in each sounding. Coverage is relatively uniform, except in the Greenland interior. All sounding data were obtained from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), and from the NOAA National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). All data are available on CD-ROM. Documentation is available on disk, on-line, and as hard copy. Software (FORTRAN and C) programs for data retrieval are provided on CD-ROM.
