The MODIS Climate Modeling Grid (CMG) browse images are currently only available for Version 4 (V004) MODIS data from this Web page. NSIDC does plan on creating Version 5 (V005) CMG browse images in the near future. However, you can obtain V005 CMG Browse Images, with the exception of MOD10CM and MYD10CM, through each of the order interface options such as the Warehouse Inventory Search Tool (WIST), the Data Pool, and the Search 'N Order Web Interface (SNOWI).
The high spatial resolution and temporal coverage of the MODIS land products are advantageous for many studies, but the resulting large volume of data can make analysis and ordering data difficult. The MODIS CMG Browse Web page provides quick access to reduced-resolution JPEG images of only Terra and Aqua daily global snow cover in a CMG. The smaller file size of these images allows users to browse data and identify regions of interest more easily and quickly. There is no direct link from the reduced-resolution images available here to the full-resolution CMG data product.
The images are organized by date, making it easy to find data for a particular day or time series. Since MODIS V004 date are no longer being processed, the temporal resolution for these CMG Browse Images ends with the 2007-01-03 browse image.
