This data file (SNOWDPTH.DAT) in this directory (\SNOWDPTH) contains snow-depth measurements collected in the winter of 1963-64, and in the fall of 1964 by the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) at the CRREL site in Barrow, Alaska. Data collection was the responsibility of Jerry Brown at CRREL. Data compilation and reduction for the ARCSS/LAII program, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, was supervised by Frederick Nelson, Department of Geography and Planning, State University of New York at Albany.

Snow-depth data were collected at the thermocouple installations at irregular intervals between October 2, 1963 and October 31, 1964. All available data are reported in the file SNOWDPTH.DAT in this directory. Data values are given in cm. The header information refers to thermocouple installations referenced in the soil temperature data sets. The column labeled 'BR' refers to the study site on Beach Ridge. Please refer to the file SOILTEMP.DOC (a description of temperature observations at Barrow, Alaska) in the subdirectory \SOILTEMP for information on the thermocouple installations. Please refer to the references listed below for more information on data acquisition procedures.
