Initial Operational Release to TRMM Team |
- Using temporary ice climatologies derived from limited SSM/I data years,
(1987-1989 for Northern hemisphere, 1989-1995 for Southern hemisphere).
Using climatologies from so few sample years will likely result in
excluding real sea ice data. These files will be updated as soon as
new climatologies are available.
- Using a temporary snow climatology file for the Southern hemisphere,
blocked for approximate latitudes of Antarctica and Andes. Misclassified
snow values may be produced in South America. This file will be
replaced as soon as a more appropriate climatology is available.
- Using temporary LOCI (land-ocean-coastline-permanent ice) masks.
Known (slight) irregularities at equatorial edges, and in algorithms
used to determine coastline pixels. These files will be replaced
when irregularities have been corrected and/or improved.

Updated Ice Climatologies. Replaced Southern Hemisphere snow climatology. |
- Updated ice climatology files with latest files derived in-house at NSIDC by
Maslanik and Stroeve, from SSM/I data years 1987-1995.
- Replaced Southern hemisphere snow climatology with new file derived
from altitude/latitude freeze-line info.

Update Ice Climatologies. New LOCI masks.
|
- Latest Ice Climatologies derived in-house at NSIDC, these use SMMR
data from 1979-87 and SSM/I data through 1996.
- New LOCI masks, more pixels were determined to be mixed pixels,
and set to coastline value.

User reported bug in HDFEOS geolocation parameters.
|
- Fixed bug in calls to HDFEOS software to set geolocation information.
Bug did not affect any previously released data arrays, but
would have caused incorrect geolocation information to be retrieved
via HDFEOS applications.
- Updated date software for Y2K compliance.
