The figure above, modified from Shuman and Stearns (2001), depicts composite daily average temperature trends for each AWS site, filling gaps in the AWS record with calibrated passive microwave brightness temperatures. Temperatures derived from brightness temperatures show reduced sensitivity; therefore they appear less "noisy."
