Dissolved barium data were compiled from water samples collected between 26 August 1993 and 2 October 1997 from nuclear submarines in the interior basins of the Arctic Ocean.

Water samples were collected by four nuclear submarines: the USS Pargo in 1993, the USS Cavalla in 1995, the USS Pogy in 1996, and the USS Archerfish in 1997. The samples were collected into high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bottles and analyzed in the laboratory.
