Regions covered by cloud during the 24-hour analysis period are generally mapped as persistence, taking lower resolution passive microwave data and surface observations into account where possible. Sub-grid scale features may not be detected. These data are freely, openly, and fully accessible without restrictions. These data are freely, openly, and fully available to use without restrictions, provided that you cite the data according to the recommended citation at https://nsidc.org/about/use_copyright.html. Near-real-time data provide an estimate of conditions based on information and algorithms available at the time the data are collected (typically within 24 hours). They are processed as data become available, and are not reviewed prior to release.EnglishNOAANOAANational Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrationhttp://nsidc.org/noaa/Data Center ContactNOAAUser Servicesnsidc@nsidc.org1-303-492-61991-303-492-2468National Snow and Ice Data CenterCIRES, 449 UCBUniversity of ColoradoBoulderCO80309-0449USAFTPGIFFTPNetCDFFTPGeoTIFFFTPASCIIArmstrong, R.L. and M.J. Proceedings of the 10th Symposium on Global Change, Dallas, TX, American Meteorological Society. 487-490.This data set provides maps of snow cover and sea ice for the Northern Hemisphere from February 1997 to the present from the United States National Ice Center (USNIC). USNIC analysts produce these using the Interactive Multisensor Snow and Ice Mapping System (IMS). Maps are derived from a variety of data products including satellite imagery and in situ data. The data are provided in ASCII text, GeoTIFF, and NetCDF formats in three different resolutions: 1 km, 4 km, and 24 km.
Note: The IMS product is considered an operational product; however, USNIC, who creates this product, does not guarantee availability or timely delivery of data via the NIC Web server. NSIDC, as the data archive, does not guarantee availability of this product via the NSIDC Web server. These servers should not be used to support operational observation, forecasting, emergency, or disaster mitigation operations, either public or private. Users with real-time operational needs should visit the USNIC Web site and contact the USNIC Liaison to request access to their operational server.VIEW RELATED INFORMATIONhttps://doi.org/10.7265/N52R3PMCDocumentationGET DATAhttps://noaadata.apps.nsidc.org/NOAA/G02156/HTTPSVIEW RELATED INFORMATIONhttp://nsidc.org/data/g01962.htmlEnvironmental Working Group Joint US-Russian Sea Ice AtlasVIEW RELATED INFORMATIONhttp://nsidc.org/data/g02158.htmlSnow Data Assimilation System (SNODAS)VIEW RELATED INFORMATIONhttp://nsidc.org/data/nsidc-0046.htmlNorthern Hemisphere EASE-Grid Weekly Snow Cover and Sea Ice Extent Version 2PROJECT HOME PAGEhttp://nsidc.org/data/seaice/Sea Ice Data at NSIDCPROJECT HOME PAGEhttp://www.natice.noaa.gov/ims/U.S. National Ice CenterVIEW RELATED INFORMATIONhttp://nsidc.org/data/g02168.htmlTiming and Statistics of Autumn and Spring Annual Snow Cover for the Northern HemisphereCEOS IDN DIFVERSION 9.92008-01-012024-03-20NSIDCVersion SummaryInitial releaseNSIDCMinor Version1Initial release of this data set at a 24 km resolution.1997-02-042004-02-2202Second release of this data set. Version 1.3 Summary:
* New data sources: See Table 12 for a list of the new data sources for version 1.3.
* Addition of 1 km product: A 1 km ASCII file and GeoTIFF file are now available.
* Change to GeoTIFFs: The GeoTIFF files now have their projection information within the GeoTIFF file itself instead of in an extra .aux file. These files are now compressed using gzip instead of zip.2014-12-030NSIDCUpdate Frequencyupdated dailyNSIDCCurrent Version1NSIDCLevel of ServiceComprehensiveNSIDCFull Dataset CitationU.S. National Ice Center. 2008, updated daily. IMS Daily Northern Hemisphere Snow and Ice Analysis at 1 km, 4 km, and 24 km Resolutions. [indicate subset used].
