Instruments: Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR), Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I)

Resolution: 25 km

Time period included in climatologies: January 1979 - December 2007

Units: % (e.g. 97 means 97% sea ice concentration)

Min Max NODATA:
15 100 253 = coastline
254 = land mask
255 = missing data

Background: Monthly climatologies of sea ice concentration represent mean ice concentration percentages for each month over the above time period. A threshold of 15% concentration, commonly used to define the sea ice edge, has been applied. These data were generated using the NASA Team sea ice algorithm.
