Data Technologies
Archive records often consist of vast volumes
of material stored in complex formats. Experts must first make these
data accessible before researchers can usethem in practical research.
NSIDC scientific programmers develop algorithms and data access technologies
and tools to ensure that users can utilize old and new data housed at
NSIDC.
The open-access NSIDC Web site allows users to conveniently find and
retrieve data in whichever way they prefer—whether by browsing
into the site, downloading from FTP server, or even signing up to receive
data automatically. NSIDC shares metadata with the Global Change Master
Directory and may be accessed via Geospatial One Stop.
