The National Snow and Ice Data Center part of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado at Boulder, serves as a national information and referral center in support of snow and ice research. NSIDC is a trusted source of cryospheric data and services, and is a leader in research and development within this field.
The junior-level position's main function is to apply principles and practices of systems administration to the solution of day-to-day problems associated with NSIDC's scientific computing environment. Confer with scientists and other data center staff, as appropriate, to determine task specifications. Provide analysis, testing, implementation, follow up, and closure of assigned tasks. Work under the general supervision of the senior systems administrator.
This position requires the successful completion of a UCB background check, which will be repeated periodically. In some cases, the position requires the successful completion of a federal background check to meet the requirements of federal grants and contracts, or for access to systems operated by federal entities.
The position will be filled as a Professional Research Assistant at the University of Colorado at Boulder and will be eligible for employee benefits, including 22 days of vacation (for a 100% position) per year.
